Hi, I’ve been reading paddlewise now for several months with tremendous
interest and it’s been an invaluable resource for me. This past March I was
fortunate enough to receive my ACA Open Water Coastal Kayaking Instructor
certification and I’ve begun instructing here in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
So far I’ve taught a couple of 8-hour flatwater (intro) courses that have
gone really well. I truly enjoy doing these.

The other day I taught my first person to roll (C-to-C). I love rolling and
have pretty solid rolls of various types on both sides and a solid hand roll
(if I lean back) on my on-side. (I paddle a NDK Romany Explorer and a glass
Wilderness Systems Shenai). Working with the client one-on-one seemed
pretty natural and by the end of the two hours session he had managed 3 or 4
fair rolls on his own.

My question to the list is this: What’s your advise to learning to and
actually conducting rolling instruction for a group of clients?
