My wife got me a Raytheon 100 VHF for my birthday. I've been using it mostly to monitor the local boat traffic and requests to open the Southern Blvd. drawbridge linking Palm Beach to West Palm Beach (Florida, USA). As a fairly new paddler, it sits in a dry bag either in the cockpit or in the "elastics" on deck. Actually I use it more at home listening to fisherman, weather and tide reports. I haven't had the need to monitor it too closely or use it myself, but I like the way I can set it to scan and monitor the weather. Its rated U.S.C.G CFR-46 "waterproof" whatever that means, but I still keep it in the drybag. I can't vouch for it's usefulness in tough situations, but it seems to have a lot of useful features.
