Hi Folks,

I thought I would attempt to clarify the "off-topic" policy of PaddleWise...

There are/have been postings of topics that occasionally wander off the
topic of paddling, but generally tend to either get back on topic or
soon die without my interference. The off-topic postings that are of
primary concern are those postings that are not only off-topic but that
might be inflammatory and loaded with an agenda other than paddling and
that could derail an on-topic thread... or a review of the latest
Mel Gibson flick that isn't about paddling boats (however, you may send
any such correspondence to me via private email, jpegs encouraged).

Heated disagreements and debates are characteristic of a productive list
and often educational (sometimes even downright fun) and are acceptable
as long as the discussion does not degrade into personal insults and
flames and remains primarily on-topic. I do figure it is my duty to
you to keep things running as relatively smooth as possible and to
stop a potential flamewar, hopefully before it gets too far underway.
I have an asbestos suit (Major Domo mails you one when you sign up for
list-sargent duty), so send all flames directly to me (whooooosh)

For a list of what's "On Topic" see http://www.paddlewise.net/

I hope this might help to clear up any confusion with regard to this
list-owner's position on off-topic messages on PaddleWise.

Cheers,

Jackie
