It holds quite a long charge. I use mine without a covering bag (aside
from a holster type bag to hold it to one PFD that doesn't have a large
enough pocket). I have been in the water in it. Also out on a paddle
in which an inch and a half of rain fell on my over the course of a few
hours. Lastly, it gets washed of salt water by placing it in a bucket
of fresh water for a few minutes and gently scrubbing it with my
fingers.

It will not, however, be waterproof with its alkaline battery pack, just
the Nicad pack. Someone contacted me back channel regarding the radio
having seen a posting of mine regarding the Apelco 520 (which I
originally had but switched to the Standard HX350S). The person bought
a Standard HX350S and took it out with the alkaline pack. Guess what it
leaked. I had totally failed to tell him about the alkaline pack
situation with all of the radios just assuming that this was common
knowledge as it had been so extensively discussed on PaddleWise.
