Just a thought on washing a VHF radio to get the salt off.

I would suggest NOT running it under a faucet but rather soaking it in
the basin or a bucket. I just don't know what the force of running
water is out of a faucet. Why risk excessive water pressure
concentrated in a narrow stream forcing itself into the innards? Also
be careful about aggressive swishing around of the radio in the water.
Be gentle and avoid too much agitated movement of the radio under water
while washing.

This may be what did in your radio, Jack. You talked about running
water on it in public restrooms after salt water exposure. Could be the
water force was such that some water forced itself past the gaskets.

I have one of those Canon Elph Sports camera that is waterproof. The
instructions say wash by soaking BUT NOT to swish the camera around a
lot, just gentle motions.

I know the force of a wave can be great and being underwater in a roll
puts the radio under quite a lot of water pressure. But why take a risk
when washing the thing of having too concentrated a jet of water from a
faucet or creating washing machine level agitation in swishing it around
too much?

I suppose a trickle from a faucet would be okay. But just a trickle.
