Subject: Re:[Paddlewise] What did you name your boat? In keeping with the tradition of SV for sailing vessel and MV for motor vessel, I use KV Foggy Day as my vessels name.

My vessel is named Yellowfin. I will be having the moniker professionally applied to my craft by a sign maker soon. I routinely maintain VHF communication with commercial traffic (Channel 13) I'm paddling around as well as NYC Traffic Control (Channels 12 and 14) at designated checkpoints, and if I'm paddling into isolated creeks etc. just to let someone know where I am, (and sometimes just to talk to someone, as I gennerally paddle alone.) I like the idea of prefacing the name with an identifier that gives some idea of the vessel type. I never heard of a tradition of using SV and MV however; which would make using the preface KV a logical if not immediately understood station name. Therefore, my question is: Are the prefaces SV and MV a widely used convention?
