To add my 2 cent observation, when I was paddling with two companions in
Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska, I was astonished to have a wolf come very
close to me. We were very careful about food, and were probably the first
campers to the area that season (early May). I'll bet the wolf had become
accustomed to seeing humans there.

I had lost a tent stake and spent some time scuffing around in the grass for
it. Finally giving up, I went down to the boats which we were loading, and my
brother shouted at me "Nat, behind you!" and there was the wolf, hardly 50'
away. I believe it had been watching me as I searched. I have trained dogs
to do scent work and tracking, and I know he was working the area I'd been
digging around in. Maybe he thought I was looking for mice, too. The wolf
strolled very nonchallantly along the shoreline as we made preparations for
pushback - and walked along behind him for photos. The only time it picked up
its pace was when we picked up ours. Very curious behavior for what I
expected would be a very shy, wary, wild animal.
