I'm thinking about that as well. I have a friend who has prostrate trouble and he just uses his bailer (from his canoe - made of the top of a Clorox bottle, complete with the lid) and then pours it over the side. His paddles with a woman who does the same. Other friends tell me I haven't lived until I've peed down the leg of my wet suit. Arthur Herbert talked about having to balance on the back of his kayak to relieve himself during his 19 day crossing of the Gulf. Urine from a healthy person is free of bacteria so I don't have a problem with disposing of it over the side. Feces on the other had poses health hazards but if you were far enough out, this might be your only choice unless you had a plastic bag to store it in until you could bury it on shore. I do know that this involves anatomy differences between men and women, including our balance points and the receptacle which will work for each. I do hope the experts out there, both men and women, will share their techniques. Being an active sort of fella in my early 30's, i usually have to urinate about once every hour[can hold for 2..heard it's not healthy] due to a high metabolism. For those of you with similar circumstances, how do you relieve yourself during long trips in your kayak. Short of exiting or peeing in your wetsuit, there must be some tried and true methods out there. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Tue Aug 01 2000 - 11:55:59 PDT
