Interesting.  In June (or was it July), Las Palmas was celebrating some
major anniversary.  As part of it, the tourist office was footing the
hotel bill and providing hospitality suites, parties etc. for kayakers
who paticipated.  An arrangement was made to transport kayaks from
Tarragona, a port city about 50 miles south of Barcelona Spain.  It was
announced on PaddleWise I believe or at least someone pointed to the
website for this event.  I am fuzzy on the details but do remember the
Tarragona point since my wife and I did visit the town...not for the
port but for the magificent Roman ruins the remains of a once thriving
Roman city 2,000 years ago.
