I'm not a wind surfer but learned while watching a national sports channel that wind surfers consider Corpus Christi to be the wind surfing capital of the world (due to year-long windy conditions). The speeds they were talking about was awesome 8-) Easy drive from Katy to Corpus. But maybe that's still to far for you. I put thousands of miles on my car traveling to the coast weekends and holidays for sea kayaking. Would never have considered giving up my boat because I didn't live bayside. btw, there is always ice skating at the Galleria. Maybe you should try that. It does involve scooting across H2O without a motor.
