Some years ago some workers at a shipyard in Cape May were working into the evening on a boiler for a new steamboat. Dusk came, and so did the skeeters. Swatting them wasn't doing any good so they ducked into the boiler and pulled the cover plate over so the skeeters couldn't get in. Peace at last. But soon, they began hearing this funny skreeking noise. One lit up his lantern and they all could see the skeeters drilling right through the iron. One of the workers grabbed his hammer and beat a skeeter's schnozz against the plate like bending a nail. Soon all the other workers joined in..... Unfortunately, after a while they had hammered in a tremendous number of skeeters. Their combined wing power lifted up the boiler, workers and all, and headed out over the Atlantic.
