Thanks for the comment, Jackie. Dana, if I remember correctly, lives in the
northern area of the state near Jacksonville). My house in Miami is about 30
minutes from the southern entrance to Everglades National Park. I'm 20
blocks east of Krome Avenue. Fortunately, the sprawl stops there - nuttin'
but 'gators, skeeters, 'n other creepy crawlies. I did the swamp slog hiking
trip once - one girl felt a "water snake" slither past her leg. I saw one
sitting on a stump. Course, the birdlife is great.

And, yes, I was noticing similarities between Tex and Fla viz critters and
heat HOWEVER....we have ooodles of nice places to paddle: ocean, rivers,
lakes.

who is preparing to joing the Paradise Paddlers (Key Largo paddling club) on
a Labor-Day-weekend jaunt on the Santa Fe (Florida - NW of Gainesville)
River. I hope to be camping at Ginnie Springs and do some tubing as well as
paddling.
