[Paddlewise] Stopping leakage through rudder cable housings?

My new surf ski is taking on about a half-gallon of water every time I take it
out....mainly, I think, because I'm still tipping over a lot and the cable
housings are considerably larger diameter than the cables.

Anybody got a simple, reliable, long-lasting fix?

My kneejerk reaction is to smear soap on the cables where they go through the
housings into the hull and then inject some sort of goop - like AquaSeal - and
let it harden, hoping it will adhere to the insides of the cable housings and
not to the cable itself...making a reasonably water-resistant bushing/seal.
