A memorable quote from the Port Townsend show was: "I would have sold my heart for a rudder". >>> Some of us tried to tell Chris that before he left for NZ (I called him twice, spoke to him once in person), but he insisted he didn't need one, nor a simpler skeg. Ah well, no use proselytizing, people convert back from the "Church of the Rudderless" soon enough, once they hear God speak directly to them! :-) Chris is still a heck of a guy -- a real stand-up guy, head and shoulders above the rest of us. BC'in Ya Doug Lloyd (who's actually thinking of buying a used McNulty "Huntsman" - no rudder, no skeg. Anyone paddled one? Likes them?). *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

This guy is a great solo sea kayaker who has circumnavigated Ireland and the South Island of New Zealand. He also has some other great sea kayaking accomplishments and has written a book about his adventures. I haven't met him or read his book yet, but I'd bet this is going to be a good slide show. >> Hi Duane, I saw Chris Duff's slide show at the LL Bean symposium as well as took a lesson with him and got to know him a bit. He's a really nice, thoughtful, guy who puts on a very interesting show. Enjoy! I have also read part of his book On Celtic Tides (of his solo circumnavigation of Ireland). I strongly encourage you attend Chris slide show if you are in the area. You will experience the trip with him, learn of the challenges and rewards of expedition paddling, and meet one a wonderful, nice person. sid *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced/forwarded outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: PaddleWise_at_PaddleWise.net Subscriptions: PaddleWise-request_at_PaddleWise.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

I've had the opportunity to take classes from Chris at LL Bean last year and again at the AKT symposium. I've read "On Celtic Tides" and saw his New Zealand slide show presentation at the recent symposium. He's a great paddler, a great teacher, and just a pleasure to talk to.
