[Paddlewise] rudder cables

I am new to touring kayaks and have a couple of questions regarding the
rudder cables: I have cord type cables on my sit on top kayak rudder and
never had a problem with this cord breaking after 3 years of use and abuse.
I just now bought a Perception Vizcaya and it came with stainless steel
rudder cables and already they have some surface rust on some of the exposed
sections. Which is the preferred system cord or stainless? Should this
surface rust be a concern? I always rinse my kayaks in fresh water after a
day on the water so they are taken care of. Should I be doing something to
the cables like spraying them with Corrosion Block, etc.?

Thanks
