If you are interested in wilderness paddling, might I suggest that the CIA offers a terrific vacation planner. The CIA World Fact Book tells me that Canada has about 243,791 km of coastline, and the USA has about 19,924 km of coastline; that Canada has 755,170 sq km of inland water, and the USA has 470,131 sq km of inland water; and that the population of Canada is about 31,281,092, and the population of the USA is about 275,562,673. This means that Canada has about 128 persons per kilometer of coastline, and the USA has about 13,831 persons per kilometer of coastline, and that Canada has about 41 persons per sq km of inland water, and the USA has about 586 persons per sq km of inland water. With the world's top spys coming up with info such as this, its pretty easy to decide on where to paddle. Even better, the CIA now has a Kid's Page to keep the little nippers occupied while on the long trip to the paddling put-in (including a quizz on the North West Angle and some rather ironic information on Zapata). It even has links to other great kid's pages, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Twins' Joke Page ("What did the tsunami say to the beach? Nothing; it just waved.) So the next time you complain about user fees and taxes on paddlers, go get your money's worth from the fine vacation planning pages of the CIA.
