I would like to offer an idea that I tried on a 5 week trip early this year
which is very simple and works very well. That is a damper.

On this trip there were 3 males and Mike, who had tried this on a previous
long trip, suggested we cook a damper to go with the evening meal to
supplement the main course. A damper is just flour and water mixed together
and baked in a small stove. But there can be a few variations. 

For 3 men we allowed 2 cups of flour and mixed with enough water to enabled
it to be neaded for about 5 minutes. Then we put in a small stainless steel
stove on the coals of a fire. The stove had a small tray to keep the damper
off the bottom so it didn't burn. Put a few coals on top (and only a few as
its easy to burn the top) and wait about 30 - 40 minutes. take it out and
break it open and with butter on top (who worries about cholesterol when on
a kayak trip) it beautiful plus it supplements a bowl of pasta
magnificently.

Its so simple to make and a couple of variations are: If making one to go
with the evening meal add some herbs to the flour, if making one for after
the evening meal add some sultanas or mixed dried fruit.

The one disadvantage is you do need a fire to cook it on.

No stove? Just roll the dough into a 2 cm thick length, coil it around a
green stick (not your poisonous variety) and hold over the coals for about
15 mins until goldern brown. Lovely smoky flavour!
