Kayaks are appearing in all sorts of media these days, but I never expected
kayaking in one of my favorite types of films ... 1950's B horror movies.
This week I was watching the AMC horror marathon movie "The Deadly Mantis."
Giant prehistoric preying mantis thaws in Artic and heads south. One of
first attacks is on a native villiage. Great scene with 20-40 skin kakays
being launched and paddled out into a bay. It looks like some documentary
footage spliced into the movie. Anyone know what film this footage may have
been taken from. The kayak footage is very short, but I may have to rent the
movie just to get a look at some real Greenland technique.

In the past week I've seen two new commercials on tv which had kayakers. One
was a woman surfing in a whitewater boat. The other was a commercial
with a sea kayaker that actually shows a roll. I don't recall exactly what
was being advertised though.

How can you tell a serious kayaker? :-)

Paddling along through fog so thick that only one's thoughts are
visible, your reverie is abruptly shattered by the ancient cry of a great
blue heron as she lifts uncertainly from the brilliant blue of a
mussel-shell beach witnessed only by the brooding, wet spruce....your
passage home seems as much back through time as it does through space.

I just saw a Pfeizer TV ad that had someone paddling a wood strip kayak. The
ad was promoting Pfeizer's research on Alzheimer's and erectile disfunction.
This is getting scary.

One of our Downtown Boathouse regulars is an actor who currently is
featured in a TV ad for Viagra. I was kidding him in front of his girl
friend but she chided me "Hey, it's good money!" He paddles a wooden
kayak but not in the ad. Maybe there is a connection.

A couple of days ago a person asked what use cold be made of a single sponson and
associated webbing. Might I suggest there is a connection to be found here with
the Pfeizer advert in terms of a "strap-on"?

Cheers,
Richard

Well, this is great! That's the media for ya! We here on PaddleWise
promoting proper posture when paddling and the media is going to highlight
erectile disfunction when paddling.

Anybody know if this film has been 'remade' by Mystery Science Theater
3000? ;)
