Not that I've got a lot of experience with such things, but I've noticed the same here with the barges on the upper/mid Hudson. Kind of reminds me of my first time in a touring kayak several years ago, at a local small boat demo in a roped-off area just outside the shipping channel in the St. Lawrence River. It was a neat experience being that close - safely - to a big freighter and knowing instinctively that I'd just float right over that two or three-foot swell coming broadside. It seemed pretty big to me at the time, and I know I would have been very nervous at the time had I been in a canoe. Kind of "love at first swell" for me and kayaks that day.... *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
