Fleece-lined neoprene booties that run calf-length, with a strap closure at the top. Keeps feet dry. At Alder Creek (http://www.aldercreek.com/), REI, and NWOC (http://www.nwoc.com/). Expensive, but worth it. I got some of the lesser style (without laces) at REI on sale. I'd spring for the lace-equipped ones, 'cause the ones I have do not have much arch support or ankle support. -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I missed the whole "Cheese" thing. Do we really want cheese and feet in the same subject header? Good Luck! Solved that problem, plus stiffens the sole so I don't feel the rocks so much. Am I the only person that uses rubber boots and a pair of good wool socks? Not the greatest for swimming, but certainly warm and dry for launching and landing. Somewhere I heard about a paddler that took the foot/ankle part of a rubber boot chopped off the top and had drysuit material sewn (waterproof attachment) to it coming up to his knees to reduce the bulk and still have dry feet. with a good shockcord at the top you could keep splashes out of the top too. Of course there is the old New England saying, "If your feet are cold, put on your hat". *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I use Xtratuf rubber boots and wool socks. I was screwing around this summer and did a wet exit. I now have one right boot and two left boots. I guess you figured out I had to buy a new pair of boots :-). Hopefully if I loose another boot it will be the left one. <Bill> Brought to you from beautiful Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Resulting in a completely waterproof system. Rubber boots (not sealed to the suit) are great except for two things: they become a hazard when they fill with water during a swim and they are a bitch for those of us with larger feet to fit into low volume boats. They are basically an over-the-calf reef boot. They do not have fleece lining, just the regular fuzzy stuff you find in reef boots. The soles are soft like a reef boot. They do share the uncoated neoprene collar around the top and the webbing and fastex buckle closure that the Chotas have. I haven't dunked them yet, so I can't say how much they'd flood if the closure is cinched in. They could use an insole to stiffen the sole and make them more comfy on rocky beaches. The good news is that they are cheap - C$35 or C$37 (forget which - probably the latter). In US$ that'll soon be about $2.00 if the C$ keeps its current course. ( US$25 otherwise). of course, if you have booties attached toyour drysuit this whole discussion is moot.
