thanks, folks, for all your thoughts. i do abide by the rule of 100. and i have ordered a wetsuit from www.liquidfit.com (whose name i got from wes's Big Guys And Gals Page). she charges $50 above her wetsuit price for extra sizes (tall, large, extra-petite). i ordered one last night----all her suits are custom, and she doesn't charge for that; you can design your own suit in a not-black (ie really visible) fabric. i really appreciate the advice and pointers. i did go paddling, in as much gear as i could put on (3 layers, which brought me up to 3mm). it was a sheltered harbor and then the napa river, which was Squirly Currentlandia, for a while, and then a beautiful slough (which was Beautiful Birdlandia). my friend is a more experienced kayaker than me, though she got her BSK certificate 3 years ago and really appreciated all the fundamentals i just learned and the exercises my teacher just gave us. although i will say it is hard to do those exercises in weird water. we were out for about an hour in the late afternoon. i am mastering geting in and out on docks. for he first time ever my feet were completely dry (i have been kayaking since september, and once or twice a week since october) in my New Christmas Socks, you know, those weird fabrics kayakers wear (not neoprene though). i didn't like Squirly Currentlandia, but stayed calm and used my momentum and some sweeps to get thru the Meeting of the Eddies. a perfect training spot for me, i think. that's the good news. the bad news is i have a wrist problem that is impairing my violin playing (that's my profession) and apparently my kayaking too. i think it's going to be boat-out-of-the-water for a few weeks. GOD, i dread that. i guess i'll investigage Power Yoga (thanks for the tip) and work on lower-body conditioning <sigh>. i'd rather be paddling. becoming addicted, kcd kathleen comalli dillon~friend, mom, wife, musician, violinist, writer, ailurophile extraordinaire ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "We can do no great things; we can only do small things with great love."-Mother Teresa~~"I find a lot of people like chubby 67-year-old girls."-Beverly Sills~~"I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it."-Abraham Lincoln~~"Prepare to be assimila-----OOOOOoooooo, jelly donuts!"-Homer of Borg~~"I am Boris of Borg. I have not found any difficulty wearing a wrist splint if expecting an extended paddle Kathleen. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and works well. Found that it also complements a proper paddling technique in that it promotes a loose grip and feathering with my 60 degree is integrated into the arms rather than the wrists. Might be difficult with the wintertime accessories however. gabriel > that's the good news. the bad news is i have a wrist problem that is > impairing my violin playing (that's my profession) and apparently my > kayaking too. i think it's going to be boat-out-of-the-water for a few > weeks.
