Even after cutting 1/2" off, my neck gasket is still much tighter than it needs to be. But an overly-tight neck gasket causes fewer problems than an overly-tight wrist gasket. At least in my case. Your trimming method was spot-on. Stretch the gasket first, have something soft to cut into and use a very sharp blade (better than scissors). Scissors can leave little cuts that love to grow into full sized tears.
