Does anyone have a recomendation for a back pad for the seat. I have a Necky Looksha with a hard plastic molded seat. It is pretty uncomfortable and I often slip down in it. There are many types of back pads on the market, so I would like to narrow my choices. It has to be one that fits with this type of seat. I used to have a Narpa, which is similar inside, and I took the hard seat back out & put in a backband. It took about 15 minutes to install. The one I put in was a PD Designs band. Very comfortable, and made rolling much easier, too. Hope this helps. Check out this new back band that has a adjustable lumbar support. Go to www.nsipadz.com, select Paddlesports, then select Adjustable Anatomic Back Bands. Nothing like it on the market as far as I know. They sent me one to try out but I have not had time to install it in a boat and test it. I think they have one model for sea kayaks and another version for white water kayaks. If you end up taking the seat out and making a foam seat then check out this site: www.kayakfit.com. Check out the photos. Wayne's suggestion of a back band is a good one. I replaced the seat back on my Sea Lion (too high, not all that comfortable, comes unfixed during re-entries) with a Pryanha WW backband. Much better. If you really like the shape of the seat back, you might think about gluing a layer of closed cell foam on it, say 1/4", and then perhaps some nylon-faced neoprene over the foam. I suggest this partly because of the seat back pads that used to come with the Sea Lion, which were very insecure, and which I removed immediately. If you really like Guess I'm the odd one out on this thing. This morning, I paddled my Heron, with it's hard plastic seat, for the first time since June, after months in my Telkwa. I felt that my posture was better as I was able to sit more upright more easily; I tend to slouch with the backband. -- Wes *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
