http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/05/sports/05ZEN.html I'm interested in long distance racing, is there an organizing body for the sport? -Patrick ============= hi Patrick, interesting question that you pose. i've heard of the upcoming 240 nm kayak race the from Tampa, FL area to around Key Largo this spring and i know of one retired PA fellow who is training for it. he has his body fat low. when we biked in cold weather a couple of weeks ago, i was nice and warm while he was cold... let's hear it for fit with a bit of fat.... anyway, are there Paddlewise kayakers registered for the FL kayak long distance kayak race? Kruger, the famous canoe paddler is entered (more than 90 thousand miles so far). i've heard of great ocean crossings by skin kayakers. are any skin/frame kayakers involved in the Florida race? i must say, for now that stuff is beyond me... but i enjoy reading about it. it's more likely that i'll be at the www.bikeflorida.org event. i'm in training for retirement and a couple of 70 and 80 yr guys and gals that i know i are doing the bike event. 2 of them also do recreational long distance kayak events each year (more than 200 mile trips). yet they alll seem to race in shorter 8-15 mile kayak events. Is Patrick planning to paddle in some long distance kayak races? bye bye bliven *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
