[Paddlewise] SECURITY LOOPS

Hi, folks. I think I'm going to add a stainless steel security loop fore
and aft of my plastic boat so that I can run some wire or chain through them
and lock the boat up at times.

I'm planning on using some s.s. U-bolts. Figured I'd cut a rectangular
piece of ss that stretchs from thread to thread, on the underside of the
deck, to add some strength if someone tries to pull it out. I'd also
sandwich sume rubber from an old bicycle inner tube between the bar and the
plastic for a little padding and a tight seal. Also, I'd smear some
silicone caulk under it for a good seal, then apply some caulk all around
the edges and inside the holes that I'll drill for the u-bolt threads to go
through the plastic.

Anyway, I hope that description is clear. Before I start drilling holes,
does anyone have any words of wisdom - materials, methods, positioning
etc???????

Rick (....Virginia, where it isn't warm - today, lo of 25, hi of 45 - , but
at least the creek at my house thawed last week!)
