I don't really use a hip snap. I start to put the boat under me as I initiate
the sweep and then a tiny humph at the end to finish the project.

Actually, I'm not failing to roll up. It is just so much harder. I seem
to have to put so much more effort into it. If I don't I find I am sculling
up the last bit instead of getting the boat under me, as I normally would.
Hummm, this sounds like a failure of the tad of a snap at the end. I
might be trying too hard and when I go to make that last move up with my
lower leg I'm so hard against the thigh pad I have nothing left to push with.
Then I find I'm pushing myself up with the paddle because I'm unable to let
the pressure off my left for fear of rolling back down. This sculling
business is fine in the pool but it won't work with the slightest chop in
real water. I'll have to see what is going on next time I try the GS.
Thanks, this is giving me a lot to think about.
