We went out last Sun. It couldn't have gotten much above 40º and was overcast and foggy all day. I didn't remember to put my sun screen on and my face was a cute shade of red when I looked in the mirror that evening. I don't burn but . . . I have rather dark skin but have grown reactive to the sun with medications so I am usually careful. I wear my gloves to protect both the fronts and backs of my hands. I PROMISE I'm not gripping the paddle too hard but I get blisters if I don't have gloves. Part of that is due to the unfinished wood of the loom but even with my trusty glass paddle I get them. The other thing is that the sun really is hard on hands. You can have long sleeves on but the hands are out there for paddling, lunch, chatting, loading and unloading, and all that stuff. To give them a break of 6 or 7 hours is a favor to yourself. Sun screens are fine but if you read the directions most will say to reapply every 45 to 60 minutes. No way will I remember to do that. Every time I do that if I don't have gloves on I spend many minutes attempting to get it off the palms so I don't have a rotating paddle with every stroke. Not to get into global warming and all that stuff but we seem to be in a situation, natural or not, where we are at a higher risk from the life-giver. Just that gift which promotes life can get out of hand and overdo things. Cancer is life gotten out of hand. I know some things are more inconvenient than others but cancer is probably very high on the list of inconveniences.
