I am loathe to broach this subject. Fragrant booties.
I mean AMAZINGLY fragrant. Like something that
spent quality time in the intestinal tract of a sick old woman......and
emerged again to tell the tale.
I have had to restore to placing them critters affixed to the kayak
racks of my ol' Montero.
Seagulls follow me from the beach for miles......screaming! Alley
cats perched atop garbage cans drop their current pursuits and look
dreamily in my direction.
What works for you? Do the preparations advertised as bootie
shampoo actually work? Should I bury my trusty 5mm booties and start
anew?

Webbed foot.

'Sink the Stink' is available at a lot of dive shops and will EVEN take
out that healthy young man foot smell...

The stuff that Bob Denton peddles, called Sink the Stink, does a great
job. You only need a little bit mixed with water in a large garbage
pail, and you can clean all the booties for everyone in the family.
Wetsuits, gloves, sprayskirtsetc. too.

I don't know if it's intende dfor anything but neoprene, but we've also
thrown our paddling jackets in.

You'll probably need to use Sink the Stink the first time, and then use
white vinegar and water as a soak once a month or so after that. Keeps my
booties and my wetshoes fairly stink-free.

Bob,
Used the StS on the dog after he took a roll in a long dead deer on the
trail this past Sat. Even a bath in the river didn't help. Your stuff was
great. Now I just need to try it on the gloves <G>.
