Hello everyone - I'm starting work on the 5th sea kayak I've built (built two touring kayaks - many years ago - also) . This boat will be a standard North Bay with several modifications, built from plans. I just discovered that during the computer meltdown last fall I lost all the info I'd accumulated on the various alternatives for recessed deck fittings. For my last boat I made some serviceable recessed fittings from 1.5" X 3" X 3/4" blocks of wood seated under the deck. They're good and they look okay, but I'd like something which looks a bit slicker. I know that Kajaksport offered some commercial fittings at one time, and I know that several individual builders have neat solutions to this problem which they've worked out themselves. Any experiences, hints, tips, warnings, etc will be gratefully received. If possible, reply to my e-mail address. Thanks! - Bill Hansen - Ithaca NY *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Hello Dave, thank you very much for the compliments. > Very elegant. BTW, what diameter rope can you snake through the > completed > hole? 4 mm? 3 mm? Up to 8 mm rope + 5 mm shock cord !! (Needs surgery education ;-) ) > > How about shock cord (rubber bungie)? > Uuuaaagh, that strikes me - be sure I'll test this next time. I found a cut-in-half fitting in my shop, but have no digital camera available, so it will take some time to bring it on the web. Drawings are in progress, Joe!
