I'm thinking of building a skin boat but I can't seem to find any
explicit directions on the sewing technique. I've tried Harvey Golden's
site, bidarka and some others but no luck. Any help out there?
On the subject of speed and age, out on day trips with the local club,
I,m always out in front and have to watch that I don't abandon the
group, but on the few occasions that i've entered local races, I,m
bringing up the rear. ( the races and the day trips are made up of
completely different groups of people ) The big difference I've
noticed, at the races, is cadence, I just can,t maintain the rate that
the lead guys do. Age? I'm 61 and doing more day trips.
                            Paul in Puget Sound

Wolfgang Brinck's, "The Aleutian Kayak: Origins, Construction, and Use
of the Traditional Seagoing Baidarka", available at
amazon.com, has good information on sewing the skin. The sewing technique
can be adopted for a Greenland-style kayak. Also, the baidarka list can
help you if you have specific questions.

Paul,

There was just a discussion of this on the baidarka list. Bill Low has
some instruction that he is refining and will soon be put on the list web
page. As someone pointed out (in the following message below) there
already is some information in the archives.
