Our German PaddleWise friends obviously would have better historical details
than I. My understanding is that Bavaria-Boote was started by some Klepper
employees. It is a huge operation making hardshell kayaks, canoes and other
small boats. It is located not far from Klepper in the Rosenheim vicinity.
I visited the Bavaria Boote factory while hanging out for a week at the
Klepperwerks in 1993. For many years, Klepper US was the distributor for
Bavaria boats in the US. You would see them at the shop at Unions Square in
NYC. Not bad fiberglass boats (the fiberglass work inside was a bit rough)
and interestingly had spxnsxns running inside on both sides most of the
inside length. The spxnsxns looked exactly like those on Kleppers and about
the same diameter. These floated pretty freely inside attached only by
little pieces of string glassed into the boat inside and evenly spaced.
They offered some internal flotation. the boats also used a moveable bar
for a footbrace. The bar ran across the boat and you placed it it through
holes on side rails to adjust for your leg length. You had about 6 or so
settings rather than the infinite ones you get in some rail and foot pedal
systems.
