Since a kayak is skinny in the ends and fatter in the middle, supporting its
own weight means that the ideal position for the supports would be closer
to the waist than the quarter points. So thirds may be a reasonable
approximation.

When I bought my QCC500X, I was asked for my inseam measurement, and the
forward bulkhead, and rudder pedals were located so as to give me adequate
leg room. I got the impression that the bulkheads could be located anywhere
desired since each boat is custom built.
