Recent postings on the history of Paddlewise's beginnings have led me to the
conclusion that an innocent object has become the victim of "bad press". Its
very name is shunned (and filtered) by heartless listserver moderators across
cyberspace. Therefore I am proposing new terminology for this device that
will not carry the nasty conotations which have been unfairly associated with
it in the past.

>From now on I will refer to that device as the

E. S. A. D. - External Stability Augmentation Device

I feel this new name has much to off to those on both sides of the argument.

On the Pro side I offer

Everyone Should Acquire Device

Essential Suit (lawsuit) Avoidance Device

Extra Stability Aids (the) Disabled

Extra Stability Aids Daguerreotyping (ok you find a better word for
photography that begins with a "D

On the Con side:

Excessive Spam Advertised Device

Extreme Societal Aggrevation Device

Each Spam Adds (to my) Disgust

Extra Stability Adds Drawbacks

Please join me in helping to free this innocent object from the shackles of
"bad conotations". Contributtions can be sent to

down to aid kayaking mail persons who may not have the benefit of an
ESAD.

Mark: Excellent! ESAD is a tremendous contribution to qajaqophonics,
although spamson will be entered in the Concise Qajaq Dictionary as well as
sp*ns*n.
This reminds me of the climbing protection device known as "Friends". For a
while they were the only ones of their kind, and the name was used
generically, much like Brits use hoovering for vacuum cleaning. Other
designs came along, and the term SLCD was coined, for spring loaded camming
device.
Is the Tim Ingram product is the only ESAD on the market? I have a Mariner
paddlefloat, and with a bit of modification, say four attachment points near
each corner, I think it could do double duty as an ESAD. Good idea?

Peter, we at the E.S.A.D. Foundation prefer to use the most widely inclusive
definition for ESAD'S. (Translation - We would like to get support money
from as many different people as possible). Therefore I would have to say
that Mr. Ingram's product is not the only available ESAD.

I am quite intriqued by your comments on the Mariner Rescue Float. I will
have to write Mr.'s Broze (Matt and Cam) and see if they will be willing to
return the check for my just purchased Elan and instead donate the kayak and
float to the ESAD Foundation for its groundbreaking (should that be
waterbreaking) research.

Since you are in the Southern Hemisphere might I suggest that you would
probably benefit more from the D.A.S.E - Down-under Advanced Stability
Enhancer rather than the E.S.A.D. commonly used in North America.

Sincerely

I think someone has an awful lot of time on his hands :) I always wonder
how people come up with jokes and things like definitions for ESADs (formerly
known as Sp*n**ns)
