I've been considering a bent-shaft paddle for a loooong time (it's been a

year since I unsuccessfully tried to buy one specific paddle.)

I want a bent-shaft with a variable feather angle, which limits the number

available. I'm currently considering a Lendal G1F shaft. But I'm not

keen on Lendal blades. I've tried an Archipelago and found it too big

for my tastes. So...

Has anyone ever cut down such a blade (in width)? Any obvious problems?

The Lendal blades are, I'm told, solid, not hollow, so this is a possibility.

Does anyone know of a blade from another manufacturer that fits the 27mm

inside diameter of a Lendal shaft (the only size that the variable join

is available in)? I've looked at lots of paddles and haven't found any.

Mike

(If this doesn't work, I'll probably make a pair of blades)

Mike:

Nigel Dennis says its no problem to cut down a Lendal blade. He has done
it before. I have not, however, but would not hesitate to do so after
talking to Nigel about it. In fact, following the advice here I just
might cut my Nordkapp to an Archipelago size..

Have you looked at the Current Design bent-shaft paddles or those from
WaterStick (www.waterstick.com). I like my CD bent-shaft paddle which
comes in a variety of blade sizes/shapes. It seems from a visit to the
WaterStick web site that they also have a variety of blade shapes.

While I have not cut down a Lendal blade, I did once do some repairs
on a friend's Lendal blade. I see no reason why you couldn't
successfully cut it down. You might separate the laminations a little
as you cut it down, so cut a little proud of the line and sand down
the remainder.

Hi Mike!

Lendal is one of the best! Especially for touring blades (paddlers).
Archipelepago ist the smaller blade, I use the Nordkapp-blade. Without any
Problems.

But! Donīt order the G1F !!!

This shaft is just for racers interessting. It is much too soft for a
touring paddle! Will break by nextbest heavily touch with an edge.
Best shaft is the HPS (expencive !) an the next, the G 2F. Carbon with
Glasfiber. Or was it 3 F? I donīt remember all the No...s Take the highest
version. HPS is just the best for canoe polo.
The variable centre joint fitted system is great.

good luck
bye

Lendal has some new blades which may suit you better than the Archipelago or
Nordkapp.
