Many thanks to all who provided help!!!

Summarized here were the results to me major question, and everyone said the
same thing...

Gabriel L Romeu
"...my first coat soaks into the wood and has no apparent thickness."

Dave Kruger
"Don't be afraid to roll out the saturation coat. You are only trying to fill
the pores."

Nick Schade
"You only need to apply enough to make the wood appear wet. Don't try to build
up any appreciable thickness."

"General" recommendations included
- Use short nap or foam rollers to apply
- Try heating the surface, ensuring that it cools as the epoxy is applied
- Use dense foam brushes, as open foam brushes tend to disintegrate

Thanks again for the help.

Aaron
