There is nothing better overall than PaddleWise but there are different
ones
around meeting specialized purposes.

ralph, SK Magazine only picks the head archangels from the head of the
pin, quantifies the number dancing qualitatively, edits and dresses up
the winged beings, making the whole thing readable with fairly
broad-based appeal and disseminating info into a highly readable format.
PW gets way more angels on the head of that pin, and gets them all break
dancing (though we continue to have no consensus on just how many there
are on the pin head, and which ones use unfeathered wings).

BTW, I thought Kevin was a bit harsh toward you and Canoe and Kayak
magazine last month or so, saying C&K wasn't worth the paper it was
printed on, or something to that effect. As a kayaker and canoeist, I
continue to enjoy C&K, and your contributions. Comparing C&K and Sea
Kayaker Magazines is a bit like comparing vans and SUV's -- different
beasts). Also, I enjoy Outside Magazine too. They publish limited sea
kayaking info, but have had some good destination stuff and trip
reports. A particularly memorable article concerned a couple of
Americans paddling amongst the war-rich history of Turkey. I like the
little bit of over-the-top, counter-formalistc writing the editor
permits at times. My mail man (oops -- person, opps -- letter carrier)
was over in Turkey recently on a long trip. He had a few road blocks,
but his name is Clinton, and that seemed to help. He was in a folder.
"Magic" was his description. There must be thousands of these itinerant
vagabonds globetrotting far and wide in their folders, most writing only
in their personal journals.

The latest issue of SK is out, and it is another fine issue as always.
We finally get a review of the Door County deaths, and a very well
written, evocative and pithy account of more arctic travel. Lots of
other great stuff too. So much reading, and so little time. I'm meeting
with the coroner finally, regarding a death due to a kite sailing
incident awhile back. He is finally willing to release the details. I'll
have to race Matt for this summer's Safety space in SK re his spray
skirt article. Yea Matt, you are finally doing some writing again. Its,
like, Bobby Fisher coming out to reclaim his title!
