Thanks to Doug and Ralph for pointing out the knee-jerkiness of my response
to the query about other paddling forums. They are, of course, correct in
pointing out that there are quite a few really good specialized forums out
there.
For specific topics the Nick's boat building BBS, a folding boat forum, and
regional lists are definately worth checking out. In my defense, however, I
was responding to the query about other forums oriented towards "sea
kayaking", in
general. I am quite familiar with rec.boats.paddle.touring and was part
of the
group that helped write the charter and I wish that it had the traffic and
sense of
community that can be found in Paddlewise.

I hope that my response did not seem rash so perhaps an explanation of where
it came from will help. I have been using the Internet for 17 years and
participating
in usenet newsgroups and mailing lists for that long. I witnessed the
birth of
the world wide web. Since then it seems everyone wants to try to "build a
better
mousetrap", or at least "another mousetrap". My point was simply "how many
discussion forums oriented toward sea kayaking" do we really need?
