I think Bestine is naptha, aka Coleman Fuel or Energine Cleaning Fluid.
Still maybe a little more agressive than desirabl.  Certainly very
flammable.

WD-40 is good for this use as it's mainly kerosene, which will soften
typical contact adhesives without attacking plastics, with some DMSO,
which helps penetrate and carry the solvent in.

Another safe agent to use is household ammonia. I found some years ago
that ammonia was good at removing the yearly state and county park
stickers from my windsheild.
