There has to be many listserves dealing with sea kayaking. Two that I know are http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ckayak-tx and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DFWseakayakers The main purpose of ckayak-txis to let kayakers living or visiting the Texas coast find places to paddle and people to paddle with. It has messages about pickup paddling, planed overnight trips, and trip reports,some complete with map or chart information.Pictures of trips can also be posted. I just led a trip to Choke Canyon State Park in west Texas and was joined by a couple from Michigan who had found the list. The DFWsekayakers serves the same function for north Texas. Both groups will share a trip at Caddo Lake, April 8-9. The outing has several optioons. Everyone is welcome. (Until we max out) We will also have a catfish dinner supplied by a chef on Saturday night after visiting the secret places in Caddo, open only to paddlers when the vegetation is down. Caddo Lake is an important environmental area and you can find information about it at the above URL. There are other local paddling groups in the Yahoo groups as well including one for the Boundary Waters/Lake Superior area. Also, when I plan to travel, I check for local groups. Many clubs have listserves as well as trip information. I then can arrange to go on a club trip or find a knowledgeable club member to paddle with.
