I disagree, for US$350 worth of cold water clothing you can be as 
safe or unsafe as with US$1000 worth.  You can get definitely a 
new quality drysuit for less than that -not Goretex as somebody 
already pointed out- and thermal wear to wear under it, it will 
protect you the same way from cold water than the 3 times more 
expensive Goretex model.  Gloves, poogies, and a cap complete 
the outfit.
Or you can go the neoprene way, or look for used stuff.
