Some people have commented on coil tethers being noisy on their deck. I
have one that doesn't make much noise which is saying a lot considering that
I have a canvas folding kayak deck that would otherwise resonate like a
drum. Mine is basically the coiled tether used by jetskiers to tether
themselves to their ignition key; if they fall off the coiled tethered key
pulls out cutting off their motor (lots of their equipment has good
crossover possibilities for sea kayakers). It is cheap, lightweight, bright
colored and seems to work well. Matt Broze picked up on it from a
suggestion of mine and, last I heard, it worked okay; and I think I have
seen some magazine pick up on it too, Sea Kayaker?

This is just a reminder that when trying to answer some need around a sea
kayak, see if some other user of the water may have something that may be
adapted to our needs.
