I have mine attached using 3M Marine Velcro (The 3M white plastic stuff)
mounted in the corners of the black plastic mounting plate and on the
recess. I use a small piece of minicell at the bottom of the recess to keep
the compass from rattling. I can also move the compass from boat to boat and
take it off the boat for storage. I am thinking of gluing some gasket
material around the mounting plate and foregoing the minicell.

I've used this system for 3 years and haven't lost the compass yet.
