[Paddlewise] Jetski wakes

The solution to jetski wakes is clearly to have more wakes for jetskiers.
Perhaps I'm just lucky, but I've *never* seen one operated responsibly near
paddle powered boats. Those who drive them seem to have genealogy charts
wider than they are tall.

On the flip side, I've also seen paddle powered boats in navigable channels
who mistakenly believe that they have the right of way over powered craft.
In this part of the world, the rules indicate that right of way is
determined according to powerboat rules in a navigable channel.

I was chortling about the various posts about licensing small boats. Just
what sort of legislative authority do they have to detain you if you are
already in your kayak? Tell them your name is Dubya Bush and keep paddling.
In this part of the world, the Ontario/Quebec border is plagued by ZEC
Bandits who are the Quebec government's way of providing off-season income
to the provinces poachers. The ZECs set up little piracy booths on the
logging roads and the more creative of them patrol the interprovincial
waterway looking for un-permitted boats. The culturally paranoid folks in
Quebec don't seem to grasp the concept of "international/interprovincial"
waterways.

The wake of a passing boat has almost as much to do with hull configuration
as it does the speed of the passing boat. There are some beer barges on the
Rideau Canal system that throw off big rollers when they are crawling along,
and other boats that barely raise a bump when they go by at 60Kph.
