Ken, I paddled the Green about 10 years ago from above Mexican Hat almost to Lake Powell. Fantastic trip! Water is a BIG problem, as the river looks like expresso and mud from the bottom could be marketed as a toy for mean kids to throw. A well-placed splotch is nearly impossible to wash off -- I paddled for three days with the same clump of mud adhering to the face of my paddle. I capsized at one point, and my tent still carries stains from the Green's cloying mud. A suggestion: there are depressions in the surrounding bluffs that catch rain water that can be filtered. When you're hiking, carry a couple gallon containers along and get your water away from these reservoirs.
