This is the report of the accident that took the life of Brennan Guth, a very experienced w.w.kayaker who died last month in a somehow stupid situation. I decided to post it here as even when this is not about sea-kayaking, similar risky situations are also common, and somehow the excess of confidence is unfortunatelly frequent in human nature. The report was written by his pal who was with him during the accident and I post it here the way I receive it, without modifications. I couldn´t get his permission but I think he wrote this with the aim to be read and to learn something about it. Maybe this way Brennan´s death might have a meaning. I´ve never met none of them nor do I know them at all. My respects and condolences for both of them and their families. What a tragic and poignant report; I feel terrible for the victims within this report--living and dead; with all due respect to the grieving friends and family of the deceased, the only conclusion I would dare offer is that this report illustrates the idea that even the highest skilled paddlers, ones with apparently few peers, can find themselves in unforeseen circumstances and pay with their lives. My sympathies to all involved. What an incredibly sad accident. In kakaking, it seems that even the best occasionally pay with their lives. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
