I must made reservations this morning for a vacation rental house in Chincoteague, VA for five days. The house is right on the water so I'll probably rent a kayak for several days. I know that there are a couple of shops in Chincoteague that have rental kayaks available but I don't know what kind of boats they rent or if there might be some place better in between Norfolk and the Island (we're flying into Norfolk). If anyone has any recommendations I'd like to hear them. If there is anyone here that might be able to go for a paddle from 5/13 through 5/16 I'd certainly enjoy the company. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). One of the best places in the area for sea kayaking information --- and possibly rentals --- is Wild River Outfitters in Virginia Beach, just east of the airport at ORF. Don't know if they will rent out boats, but they have a lot that they use for touring, and might rent them. Check them at < www.wildriveroutfitters.com>. Thanks to John, Jack, and Rick for the recommendation on Wild River Outfitters. Although they don't indicate that they do rentals on their web site, I've sent them email to ask. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Try Wild River Outfitters in Virginia Beach. They are within 30 minutes of the airport in Norfolk. www.wildriveroutfitters.com John David Fuller fuller_john_at_bah.com *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). John, I live somewhat in the area (about 1.5 or so hour drive to Chincoteague), and would love to join you for a paddle, but the dates aren't going to work for me. Wild River Outfitters has already been mentioned. It's the largest and best in the area, and is only about 10 minutes from the airport. Someone mentioned 30 minutes, but I can be at WRO in 30-40 minutes from here, and I have to pass by the airport to do it....... anyway, it's relatively close. Another option for you is to post to the Cheseapeake Paddlers Association listserve. You have to sign-up on on the list first, of course. They are rather large, and have people all over the Eastern Shore and up and down the Bay in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, etc. including people on the Eastern Shore. You might find someone on that list who would be interested in an outing with you. There are a number of them who are also on this listserve as well.... perhaps one of them could comment more on good places to go in Chincoteague and the surrounding area.
