Dear Gabriela,
    Caterpillar Island Slough is tough to beat.  Just West of Lake
Vancouver, WA.   Lots of wildlife close-in.  Protected back-water with
open-river Columbia as a round-trip option.  Great at night, too-- lots of
bats, beavers, and . . . smugglers.
