Some of the drip rings you buy commercially with come with instructions to 
cut the ring and refasten it with enclosed plastic wire straps. If you use 
your own you want the UV resistant black ones because it is a pain when they 
break and you loose the drip ring. String works on Greenland paddles, don't 
know how well it would do on the euro-blade style paddles.
