I put it around the deck line by my right hand. When I want to park my paddle I stick one end under the deck line on the left and then use the sail tie to secure the end nearer me on the right. You just take one knob and stick it through the loop on the other side of the paddle. It won't pull loose so you need two hands to both secure it and release it the way I have it. I can put my paddle on the front deck, push it most of the way through and paddle with another paddle without hitting mine. I do paddle with a Greenland so it might not be quite that simple with other paddles. Simple, easy park if I don't want to use a leash and toss the paddle in the water.
