I agree with not banning, but warning about possible problems. Personally, I either wear booties or stash the sandals on the rear deck and go au naturel. I find the problem to be that the stiff sole of sandals causes my feet to go to sleep. I need the flex. Actually, a good solution to numb feet is to overly flex your foot with every stroke. About ten minutes seems to help me when I have the problem. Doing a reentry with sandals is no fun. If going barefoot, remember to put some foam on the bottom of the boat to avoid chaffing your heels.
